Daniel 2:37 - 43 wpe2F.jpg (19705 bytes)D
37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

From a study of clicking on the different parts of the image God has revealed to King Nebuchadezzar what is going to happen in history after his reign and empire. These   four empires (Babylonian, Persian, Grecian, Roman empires) all dominated prophetic land areas especially land given to the Jews through God's covenant with Abraham, Issac and Jacob known as the promised land. These four kingdoms span a history of time from the time of the Babylonian Empire to the time when the land area of the Roman Empire will be revived again under antichrist in the latter days. Antichrist's revived Empire and reign will end with the visible return of Christ when he and his armies will be defeated. Antichrist toward the end of his reign will attempt to rule over Israel and to make Jerusalem the world's capitol (see Daniel 9; Daniel's 70th week).
Daniel told the King these four empires will pass in history before God would set up a Kingdom that would never pass away and cover the whole earth. These four empires in the great image were symbolized by the gold, silver, brass, and iron. Each kingdom is inferior to the one before it as silver is inferior to gold, brass to silver, silver to iron.
Today we are living in the time of the 10 toes of iron mixed with clay shown in the imag

MModern Europe today

wpe32.jpg (1875 bytes)

iin the generation Christ returns

Like the two arms of silver (Persians / Medes) and the two legs of iron (East and West Roman Empire) the ten toes (five on the right foot; five on the left foot) show a further and continuing division of both East and West Roman Empire land area into what we know today as the nations of East and West Europe. The number ten(10) is used as a round number in many places in scripture and prophetically means any number (e.g. 10 commandments symbolizes the whole law; parable of 10 virgins - Matt 25:1-13; saints to be thrown into prison for 10 days - Rev 2:10). Today, many are looking for exactly 10 nations in Europe to fulfill the 10 toes like the European Common Market or EU but Daniel is simply saying a round number or X amount of nations will evolve or develop in the land area that was in the past known as the Eastern and Western Roman Empires. If you were to overlay a modern map of today with the Old Roman Empire border at it's height, the nations within that border today are symbolized by the 10 toes. Today these would be nations like Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, Rumania, etc. The iron Daniel saw in the 10 toes would be the iron rule and strength that exists that makes these individual nations just as the Roman Empire was symbolized by its iron rule. Remember ten(10) toes is a round number simply indicating the nations in the latter days whose land area was in the past part of the old Roman Empire.

wpe123.jpg (1112 bytes) 41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

The clay in the toes is the human element as man was made out of clay or the dust of the earth (Gen 2:7). This element is what makes for separate ethnic cultures and languages and unique identities that keeps these nations separate e.g. Spanish, French, German etc,. Daniel tells us as iron does not mix with clay (Daniel 2:43) the people of these nations shall mingle themselves with each other but not cleave to one another. It is this rational that prevents the nations in Europe from being united as one empire sharing same language and culture. However, in the last days these nations will unite together as separate nations behind one man they elect to follow, who will not only dominate their history, but the whole world in the end time till Christ returns. This man is known by many different names in the Bible but most oftenly referred to as 'the antichrist'. Daniel 7 introduces the person and rise of antichrist in the last days from among these nations and how he gets them to let him dominate them and reviving the whole land area of the Old Roman Empire area and more.

The whole image standing in the latter days is also a great revelation of size of Antichrist's Empire that will stand in the latter days.

The remaining verses of
Daniel 2, tells us a great revelation about the image, and how it foreshadows the empire of antichrist standing in the last days as a mighty defiant Goliath, only to fall to God's eternally prepared stone - Christ - the eternal Son of God. Looking at the table below, you see the modern names for what remains of these past world empires today.  Daniel did not know the future names of the nations that Antichrist would dominate in the last days, but identified them by the world empires they were in the past. Remember, Daniel 2:28 says this image teaches what shall happen in the last days . Daniel 2:31 says this image was of an excellent brightness - in other word - the reality of what the image symbolized will be very evident in the last days after antichrist has come to power. Antichrist will dominate all of these land areas that made up these past empires. Daniel seven and Daniel eight tells how this will happen.
Daniel 2 is telling us that even though these past world empires have come and gone in the past yet in the last days what remains of them will be resurrected and together they will be united as the final empire of man before Christ returns to set up his kingdom. Iraq, Iran, Greece, and nations in East and West Europe will make up the main part of Antichrist's empire.

The stone (Christ) who was rejected of men the first time and would be despised by the gold, silver, brass, iron in the King's image, God has chosen to be the cornerstone of an everlasting Kingdom

1Peter 2:6,7

6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

Psalm 111:21-24
21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.
22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
23 This is the Lord's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Daniel 2:44, 45
44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

In the days of these kings
In the days of these nations of East and West Europe (
10 toes) God will set up a kingdom that shall be greater than all these former empires put together and it will last forever.

Stone cut out of the mountain without hands.
A mountain is used in many scriptures to denote an empire or kingdom. A mountain would have many stones - that is - many people. This one stone mentioned is different in that it is made without hands - not man made. The only person that fits this truth is the birth of Jesus Christ from a virgin during the time of the Roman Empire as recorded in scripture.

Isaiah 7:14
14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matt 1:18

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Scripture also records the return of Christ to set up God's kingdom and defeat the reign of antichrist and both his kingdom and his armies.

Revelations 19:19
19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

When Christ returns and defeats Antichrist and his armies then Christ and the saints will rule over the whole earth (see Return of Christ). This is an important truth Christians should contemplate now as they await the return of Christ.   What one does as a Christian for Christ determines their position in the future Kingdom of God when it is established on the earth. The parable of talents Jesus taught in Luke 19 speaks of this truth. Those that used their abilities wisely were rewarded openly when Christ returned and set up the visible Kingdom of God over the whole earth. There will be those given authority to rule over 10 cities as opposed to those who rule over five.

Luke 19:17-19

17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.
19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

1 Corinthians 3
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

Jesus famous prayer known to many as  'Our Father' in Matt 6:9-13 always looked forward to the establishment of the visible Kingdom of God. This is the same visible Kingdom Daniel is speaking of when the Rock became a mountain and filled the whole earth.. T. This is the same Kingdom J

Matthew 6:9-13

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Isaiah 11:2-4
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above
the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Isaiah 11:9
9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

Summary thoughts
Daniel 2 leaves us with these truths. The Babylonian, Persian, Grecian, Roman Empires will be resurrected again - not as the former empires of their past but the land area these empires covered. They will be united together into one mighty empire by Antichrist.  As David slew Goliath the giant with a stone, God will slay Antichrist's empire with His stone - the Lord Jesus Christ the Rock of Ages. From the chart and images above we see that the modern nations that are left over from the Babylonian, Persian, Grecian, Roman empires of the past exist in their modern form as the nations of Iraq, Iran, Greece, East and West Europe. These nations will all come under Antichrist's dominion in the last days as well as other nations outside the Roman Empire land area to fulfill this dream, vision and other prophecies of Daniel. The remaining chapters of Daniel fills in all the details from the rise of Antichrist to his defeat
.

Daniel 2

1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.
2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.
4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriac, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.
5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
6 But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the
interpretation thereof.
7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.
8 The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.
9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.
10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor
ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.
11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.
13 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.
14 Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:
15 He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.
16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.
17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:
18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of
Babylon.
19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.
24 Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him, Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.
25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the
king the interpretation.
26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?
27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the
soothsayers, shew unto the king;
28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation
to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.
31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
32 This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, 33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of
clay.
34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
36 This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.
47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest
reveal this secret.
48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.
49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
